What is Hydrant? Our Product Overview
What is Hydrant?
Hydrant is a dissolving drink mix made with a blend of balanced electrolytes, minerals, and just the right amount of sugar to rapidly hydrate you.
About 75% of Americans spend their days dehydrated and don’t realize it. Common symptoms of dehydration include headaches, irritable mood, lack of focus, fatigue, and even dizziness. We saw a great need to create a product that rapidly hydrates our customers so they can get ahead of these symptoms and keep themselves hydrated all day long.
Proper hydration can bring mental clarity, mental and physical performance improvements, brighten the skin, and positively influence long-term health. We’re here to help our customers feel and perform their best by starting and activating their hydration routine.
What Products Do You Offer?
Currently, we have two Hydrant products: our Rapid Hydration Mix and our Caffeinated Hydration Mix.
Our Rapid Hydration Mix, our original product, was designed to give you a refreshing rush of optimal hydration—anytime, anywhere. Perfect for the morning, afternoon, pre- or post-workout, or to reset after traveling. Our Rapid Hydration Mix is available in six flavors: Lime, Grapefruit, Blood Orange, Iced Tea Lemonade, Fruit Punch, and Orange Mango. All of our Rapid Hydration Mixes are caffeine-free, with the exception of Iced Tea Lemonade, which has ~40mg of caffeine from the black tea in its ingredients list. Fun fact! Lime was the first Hydrant flavor and has been a fan favorite ever since.
Our Caffeinated Hydration Mix gives our signature mix an extra boost. Get all the benefits of our Rapid Hydration Mix with the added bonus of 100mg of caffeine (from green tea) and 200mg of L-Theanine. When present together, caffeine and L-theanine work as a dynamic duo and provide an extra bolt of energy without a crash. This is available in three flavors: Raspberry Lemonade, Lemon, and Orange.

What is the Science Behind your Products?
The body also needs an effective balance of electrolytes to rehydrate and stay hydrated, which is where we come in. Our formula was based on the standards necessary for Oral Rehydration Therapy, and pulls on the three levers necessary for fast hydration: balanced electrolytes (our high ratio of sodium and potassium mirrors your bloodstream's ratio), presence of sugar (to speed up the absorption, see more below), and osmolality. According to third party testing, Hydrant has low osmolality (179.00 mOsm/kg), which means there are fewer particles per unit volume in the liquid. This allows Hydrant to rapidly move down the body’s osmotic gradient, making water absorption faster.
What are the Electrolytes Found in Hydrant?
We know electrolytes are important, but what are they? Electrolytes are minerals you can’t live without. These include sodium, potassium, calcium, bicarbonate, magnesium, chloride, and phosphate, to name a few. These elements help conduct electrical signals (hence the “electro” in the name) throughout the body, enabling you to walk, run, jump, swim, think, and do everything else you do.
In solutions, electrolytes form ions and carry a negative or positive charge. This charge plays a pivotal role in bodily functions—it creates a small electrical current that regulates nerve signaling, tells your heart to beat, regulates fluid levels in the blood and body, and keeps your body’s pH in check, to name a few.
Whenever you lose fluids, be it exercise, illness, or normal day-to-day life, it's important to always replenish lost electrolytes to avoid dehydration.
Hydrant contains four electrolytes: sodium, potassium, magnesium, and zinc. For the most complete and fastest hydration, you need both a high sodium content and a high potassium content. Traditional sports drinks, for example, have a balance of sodium and potassium that matches your sweat, meaning a low potassium content and a high sodium content because you mostly sweat sodium.
But a high potassium and sodium content is what you need for the fastest rehydration—which you get with a balanced product like Hydrant as it mirrors your bloodstream’s ratio. Magnesium has been shown to enhance exercise performance in several studies, and zinc is essential for cell growth and division, immune function, enzyme reactions, DNA synthesis, and protein production.
Why does Hydrant Contain Sugar?
It’s a great question! We use cane sugar in our products (4-7g of sugar per serving, depending on the flavor) and include it because sugar actually helps to speed up the hydration process. The presence of sugar from Hydrant activates the sodium-glucose co-transport mechanism within your body, essentially working as a molecular pump in your body. When the pump is activated (aka when sugar is present), your cells' absorption rate of electrolytes and water is sped up, helping you hydrate faster.
That said, we’ve heard from many customers who have a non-sugar lifestyle or diet that they’re sad they can’t drink Hydrant even with the 4g of sugar per serving. We have some ideas in the works to help with this, so watch this space for more!
While we know a lot about the science behind hydration, we’re not medical professionals. If you have any underlying health concerns or questions, we always recommend checking with your doctor for more.
